Jeannette Lager George, M.D., MPH, is an accomplished surgeon and medical educator with a passion for elevating the lives of others through comprehensive, patient-centered care. As a gynecologist with expertise in minimally invasive surgical techniques, her greatest joys are being in the operating room and later seeing the patients she treats feeling better and leading pain-free lives. As an educator, she loves teaching and seeing her students advance in both their skills and confidence.

Dr. Lager George is the Associate Director of the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Endometriosis Center and Fibroid Center, where she treats patients with fibroids, abnormal uterine bleeding, ovarian cysts and endometriosis. A member of both the University of California Fibroid Network and the UCSF Comprehensive Fibroid Center, she champions enhanced recovery after surgery through a multidisciplinary approach incorporating physical therapy, anesthesia and integrative medicine. This approach not only provides holistic care, but also helps reduce reliance on opioids.

As the Director of Medical Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology, she oversees medical student education over the four-year curriculum, and serves as the Clinical Clerkship Director for Obstetrics and Gynecology for the School of Medicine. In this role, she leads the effort within the school of medicine to improve its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, gender-inclusive care, and the dismantling of structural racism in medicine. She has received numerous teaching awards, including from the Academy of Medical Educators, the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO), the CREOG National Faculty Award and exceptional faculty teaching awards for students.

Additionally, Dr. Lager George is the Co-Director for the Undergraduate Research Internship, a pathway program at UC Berkeley that helps prepare underrepresented minority (URM) students for a career in medicine. Within the program, she created a leadership program based on True North Leadership principles to build the interns' skills and gain a better understanding and ability to articulate their motivations.

Dr. Lager George holds a B.S. in Anthropology from the University of California, Los Angeles, and an M.D. from the University of Minnesota, where she graduated with honors (AOA). She received an MPH from the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed her residency at University of North Carolina hospitals. She is a scientific advisor for One Heart Worldwide, a nonprofit that works on maternal and child health.

In her free time, she enjoys cycling and spending time outdoors with her husband, Jonathan, and their two children, as well as nurturing their interests in soccer, reading, math, and art.
